MESJ – Mormons for Equality and Social Justice

Mormons for Equality and Social Justice (MESJ) is a grassroots organization of Latter-day Saint individuals who are “anxiously engaged” (D&C 58:27) in furthering the cause of Zion by working for the gospel values of peace, equality, justice, and wise stewardship of the earth in a spirit of Christ-like charity and concern. We do this (1) by raising awareness in Latter-day Saint communities of the inequalities and injustices that exist in the world today, (2) by actively participating in political processes to resolve these issues, and (3) by promoting and engaging in humanitarian service.

Mormonen voor Vrede en Gerechtigheid

Mormonen voor Vrede en Gerechtigheid is the dutch sister site of MESJ – Mormons for Equality and Social Justice. It is frequently updated, has links to many important mormon websites dedicated to liberal theology, nonviolence and social justice. It features mormon news items on the net and is a great resource center for MESJ members that are dutch-speaking.

The Mormon worker

I teach them correct principles and they govern themselves – Joseph Smith Jr.

The Mormon Worker is an independent newspaper/journal devoted to Mormonism and radical politics. It is published by members of the LDS Church. The paper is modeled after the legendary Catholic Worker which has been in publication for over seventy years. The primary objective of The Mormon Worker is to meaningfully connect core ideas of Mormon theology with a host of political, economic, ecological, philosophical, and social topics.

latter day satyagraha

the power of truth in the latter days: the only site on the internet solely dedicated to mormon nonviolence.

‘latter day satyagraha’ was originally conceived by ‘mormongandhi’ in April 2009 to serve as a dissident voice to violent rhetoric and to oppose the warrior culture prevalent in the LDS church. 50 articles have been uploaded since the beginnings of the site and there has been more than 5000 views of the site since then. Latter day satyagraha provides a theoretical framework for mormon nonviolence, including articles on mormon conflictology, liberation theology, futurology, and civil disobedience.

LiberalMormon.net

Our Heavenly Father is more liberal in his views and boundless in His mercies and blessings than we are ready to believe or to receive – Joseph Smith

Labels like “conservative” and “liberal” are problematic: their meaning is relative, and they are often used as pejoratives. Nevertheless, this website promotes a self-consciously liberal spirituality grounded in Mormon tradition. The website is not about politics, theology, church history, or critical study of the scriptures. Instead, the basic question driving the website is: Where, within Latter-day Saint tradition, is the Spirit at work? In other words: How do LDS teachings and practices promote spiritual growth and inspire us to do good?LDS cooperative

LDS cooperative

One heart, one mind and with no poor among us…

The vision behind LDS Cooperative is to encourage Latter Day Saints to serve eachother and all of God’s equally created children in a spirit of love, fun and equity. We encourage people to take ACTION to show charity and love to others. The ultimate goal of LDS Cooperative is to build an online community where the spirit of service is cultivated in order to prepare ourselves to answer the call from God’s prophets to live a consecrated life in the service of our fellowmen.

Mormon Zion Project

the cause of Zion: a cause for peace

We recognize…”The designs of God…to establish peace and good will among men; to promote the principle of eternal truth; to bring about a state of things that shall unite man to his fellow man: cause the world to “beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks,” make the nations of the earth dwell in peace…” (Teaching of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg.248). Let us “seek to go forth build and establish the cause of Zion”. For it is written…”that every one who will not take his sword against his neighbor must needs flee unto Zion for safety…and it shall be the only people that shall not be at war one with another” (D&C 6:6 and 45:68-69) It is our divine calling to …”Sue for peace, not only to the people that have smitten you, but to all people; And lift up an ensign of peace, and make a proclamation of peace unto the ends of the earth ” (D&C 105:38-39).
